The Baseball Marathon (Race That Didn't Make the Cut)

Finisher's Award
Whatever level you earn, you'll get a baseball card of that player. If you complete an asterisk level and an actual level (see below to find out what that means), you'll get a card of each player. We'll put the card(s) in a plastic case, punch a hole through the case, loop some leather from an old baseball glove through the hole, and we'll stick an adhesive label on the plastic to note your distance and the event.

Course Map

How it Works
You'll have to hit a Home Run for each lap you run. There's no specific order to it; you don't have to hit a Home Run, then run a lap; you can hit them all at once and then run the bases all at once, or you can mix it up some other way.

Unless you are able to coordinate a method for switching off at-bats with another runner, only one participant is allowed to attempt this run at-a-time. I'll be your pitcher, and you also have the option of just throwing the ball up in the air and hitting it. If we run out of baseballs, you may want to run a few laps around the bases while one of the outfielders and I track down the balls.

We'll have two Tiers for the Home Run category:

Tier 1: A Home Run will be any fair ball that is hit out of the infield, without first touching the ground. The RD will serve as the umpire for any disputed Home Runs.

Tier 2: A Home Run will be any fair ball that is hit over the outfield fence, without first touching the ground. The RD will serve as the umpire for any disputed Home Runs.

The Levels
The Distance you actually run may be longer than what is listed in these levels, but we think it's close enough, and that's what we'll give you credit for.

Barry Bonds* Level (50 Miles): 762 HRs and Laps

Hank Aaron Level (50 Miles): 755 HRs and Laps

Babe Ruth Level (48 Miles): 714 HRs and Laps

Gary Sheffield* Level (34 Miles): 509 HRs and Laps

500-Club Level (34 Miles): 500 HRs and Laps

Dave Winfield Level (50K): 465 HRs and Laps

Jose Canseco* Level (50K): 462 HRs and Laps

Dwight Evans Level (Marathon): 385 HRs and Laps

Amos Otis Level (Half Marathon): 193 HRs and Laps

Rod Carew Level (10K): 92 HRs and Laps

Spike Owen Level (5K): 46 HRs and Laps

Larry Bowa Level (1 Mile): 15 HRs and Laps

* If there's an asterisk next to the player's name, it means you can cheat. You can lie about how many laps you did or about how many Home Runs you hit, and you'll still get credit for completing the level. The only, and pretty big, catch is that levels with asterisks next to them will not be recorded as official results. You won't get any credit toward your BMS miles, and, in the results, we'll put an asterisk next to your name, and blackball you from the sport of running. If you take another look at the list, you'll see that you can run any asterisk level at a legitimate level (see Hank Aaron, Dave Winfield, and 500-Club).
